Buying Your First Home - The Style of Home
Buying your first home will not be nerve wracking if you are prepared ahead of time. This is part 2 in a five part series that I have put together for the first time home buyer. Today I am discussing the importance of picking the style of home and how getting the pre approval first will have a direct impact on the style, area, and the lifestyle you want to live. When looking at the style of home there are a couple of different options, the first I will point out is whether you want to live in a Condo or in a Single Family home. As I mentioned earlier the pre approval through your mortgage broker or bank will have a direct bearing on what you can purchase.
What are the Different Styles of Homes?
There are many different styles of single family houses, there are 2 Storey, Bugalow, 4 Level Split, Bi Level, 5 Level Split, 2 Storey Split...you have some great choices here. One thing I have found is that most people will stick with what they know, they don't stray to far from their comfort zone. So what I mean is, most people that prefer Bungalows(nice because you have two levels only) will stick to the bungalow and will not go to a 2 Storey. They may however go to a Bi Level style because the floor plans are very similar.
You have to choose what is right for you, if you don't want to be climbing stairs then maybe the 2 storey isn't the right plan. Some questions you may want to ask yourself would be:
- Do you need two bedrooms only or 4?
- How many bathrooms do you need or want?
- Do you want or need a finsihed basement?
- Do you want a south, west, north or east facing backyard?
- Do you need/want a garage?
